Meaning of “placed into” under RoHS

MEANING OF “PLACED INTO” UNDER ROHS:

RoHS applies to you if you are part of the supply chain of a product containing electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) & if that product is "placed into" the European Economic Area (EEA).
If your product is "placed into" the EEA, it does not necessarily mean RoHS applies to you. RoHS only applies to you if that product is or contains EEE, and if you qualify as one of the following:
  1. Manufacturer
  2. Importer
  3. Distributor
  4. Authorized representative

WHEN IS A PRODUCT "PLACED INTO" THE EEA?

Under RoHS, a product is placed into the EEA when it is made available to buy or acquire for free for the first time.
In other words, if your product will or can eventually be shipped to the EEA, then it is “placed into” the EEA for RoHS purposes.
That is true even before it ships: as soon as you or someone down the supply chain you make the product available for purchase and shipping into the EEA, your product is already “placed into” the EEA.
Still Unsure?

WHEN IN DOUBT, ASK:

Will your product eventually be made available for someone within the EEA to buy?
Will your product be placed into another product, which eventually will be made available for someone within the EEA to buy?
