What Is a Safety Data Sheet?

A safety data sheet (SDS) provides information on the health and environmental hazards of a particular product. The REACH Regulation requires certain suppliers to send their customers an SDS for products that are either pure SVHCs or contain certain concentrations of SVHCs.

An SDS typically includes the composition of the product, instructions on how to safely handle the product, and instructions on how to handle any potential spill or contamination with the product. An SDS also typically includes standard European hazard symbols.

A safety data sheet can also be called a material safety data sheet (MSDS) or a product safety data sheet (PSDS).
